A big congratulations goes out to the Kevin Durkin for his excellence performance at both the 2006 Texas Scholastic Chess Championships and the 2006 National Elementary Scholastic Chess Championships. Kevin scored 6 out of 7 points at the 2006 Texas State tournament and tied for second place in the K-1 division. He also scored 5.5 points out of 7 points at the 2006 National tournament and tied for 13th place in the K-1 division. Both performances were excellent, considering that Kevin did not know how to move a chess piece back at the beginning of the 2005-2006 school year. New Yorkers have taken notice of Kevin. At the 2005 National Grade tournament in Houston, Kevin was asked by a New Yorker, "Who is your chess coach?" and Kevin replied "Fritz and Chesster". Little did the New Yorker and his mom know that "Fritz and Chesster" is none other than an interactive chess instructional CD for kids. Since January 2006, Kevin has been tutored by Victor Alfredo Flores. Kevin will be a 2nd grader at Villareal Elementary this August.
